Carl Cheng: Nature Never Loses

Museum Tinguely, Basel

Nature Never Loses spans six decades of the pioneering, genre-busting work of artist Carl Cheng (*1942, San Francisco; lives and works in Santa Monica). After studying fine art and industrial design, Cheng first developed his artistic practice in the 1960s in Southern California, amidst political unrest, an interdisciplinary art scene, a booming post-war aerospace industry and a rapidly changing landscape. His ever-evolving body of work, encompassing a variety of materials and media, explores environmental change, the importance of art institutions to their audiences, and the role of technology in society - themes of urgent contemporary relevance.

The exhibition is organized by Alex Klein, Head Curator & Director of Curatorial Affairs, The Contemporary Austin, in collaboration with the Institute of Contemporary Art, University of Pennsylvania, Bonnefanten, Maastricht and Museum Tinguely, Basel.
