ZWEITLAND
DE/IT/AT 2025 / Director: Michael Kofler
South Tyrol, 1961. The northern Italian region is rocked by bombings. When Paul, a farmer’s son, wants to escape the lack of prospects in his village and study painting, his older brother Anton turns out to be one of the bombers. Paul (Thomas Prenn) is a farmer’s son, but also a talented artist who dreams of finally leaving behind the confines and lack of prospects of 1960s South Tyrol to go to Germany and study painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. But his plans are thwarted by the wave of terrorism that swept through his homeland in 1961. He is drawn into a vortex of violence and forbidden desires. His longing for romanticized heroism influences his decisions, and he finds himself entangled in dangerous situations. Will he manage to follow his own path and resist the influence of terror?
