The nativity scene is the work of the Solothurn convent of St. Joseph, which was created around the middle of the 18th century. Each figure has an astonishingly lifelike wax head with individual facial features, real hair and carefully crafted glass eyes. The wooden bodies, equipped with ingenious joints, can move freely. The rich dresses, which give the figures their baroque splendor, were renewed in the 1920s by Emilie Gunzinger and in the 1950s by Sister Clara using historical parament fabrics.

The valuable nativity scene is exhibited every year from 1 Advent to Epiphany in the Jesuit Church in the heart of the Old Town.
