Children's tour: Romans, children aged 6 and older

Baseltor, Solothurn

A journey to the time of the Romans - during the spring school holidays, Solothurn Tourism offers an exciting children's tour.

Founded during the reign of Emperor Tiberius (14-37 A.D.), Salodurum remained a Roman market town well into the 3rd century. From the late-Roman fort (4th and 5th century), the medieval Solothurn ultimately emerged. The name Salodurum is of Celtic origin and means "wave gate" or "market place on the water". The Romans left their mark on Salodurum. Remains of the Castrum wall can be found in the cemetery and in the Löwengasse. During a tour you can learn more about the Romans - an exciting piece of history to delve into.
