On Saturday, October 18, 2025, guests and locals will have the opportunity to enjoy a traditional brisolée in Visp. Once again this year, chestnuts, cheese, raw ham, dried meat, apples and grapes will be served by the Kastanienselve Eyholz.
Brisolée actually originated in Valais for practical reasons. The workers in the fields wanted to have a little party after their work was done. To do this, they simply used the produce they could harvest or produce themselves. These included chestnuts, cheese, wine or cider and later bacon and dried meat. This is how the tradition of the brisolée was born and how it has survived to this day.
